The underlying fundamental issues that need to be addressed to contain the spread of misinformation are: (1) the structure of the social networks and (2) the lack of checks and balances. [Roger] The manipulation by third parties is not a hack. [Tristan] You see drones, and you think, like, Oh, were gonna kill people with AI. And what people miss is that AI already runs todays world right now. [Tristan] It basically just said, you know, never before in history have 50 designers20- to 35-year-old white guys in Californiamade decisions that would have an impact on two billion people. Social Dilemma is a good film, probably too little too late to play a role in saving democracy or healing a nation so divided half of it won't do the most basic things to stop a pandemic. You pick the links that you follow. But thats all nonsense. For a TV show or movie, this will likely be the episode name or the show or the movie title. They know what youre doing late at night. The Social Dilemma focuses on how big social media companies manipulate users by using algorithms that encourage addiction to their platforms. And instead, what it really is is fake, brittle popularity thats short-term and that leaves you even more, and admit it, vacant and empty before you did it. [Jaron] Thats a little too simplistic. Because they have inevitable destructive consequences. The EC is like any political movement in history, when you think about it. [Anna] Theres not a day that goes by that I dont remind my kids about the pleasure-pain balance, about dopamine deficit states, about the risk of addiction.
